American Water Spaniel Dog
For Love of a Dog Jewelry the American Water Spaniel Dog
Although the exact origins of the American Water Spaniel are not known, some theorize that it was developed from a cross between the Irish Water Spaniel and the Curly-Coated Retriever, as well as other early spaniels. Beginning in the 18th century, the American Water Spaniel was used as an all-purpose farm and hunting dog in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The breed was favored as an excellent hunting dog with the ability to hunt birds in a variety of different environments, especially those involving water.
The American Water Spaniel was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1940. Despite its native origins and enviable place as the State Dog of Wisconsin, the American Water Spaniel remains virtually unknown in the United States, though its reputation in hunting circles is considerable.
