Pointer Dog Breed Information

The name Pointer is taken from this dog's habit of pointing at concealed game, espcially quail, grouse, and pheasants, when scented.

The heavy, coarse pointing dogs from which Pointers were developed originated in Spain in the Middle Ages, and early in the 17th century were taken to France and from there to England where they were crossed with the Foxhound and the Old White English Terrier to obtain lighter weight.

Pointer dogs are recognized at extremely intelligent and affectionate dogs.
